Why do bearings need to be boiled in oil before installation? What are the benefits?

Generally, it is installed using a heating machine, but some open, medium and large bearings will also be boiled in oil. Although oil boiling is essentially the same as heating with a heater, the temperature control is relatively strict. So why do bearings need to be boiled in oil before installation? What are the benefits?


Lubrication and cost reduction

Using oil-boiled bearings for installation can, on the one hand, reduce costs and achieve the purpose of batch heating; on the other hand, it plays a lubricating role. Soaking the bearings in the oil pan can make the bearings more lubricated and more comfortable to use.



Heating the inner ring for easy installation

Generally, heating is used to install bearings in order to increase the capacity of the inner ring. Using the principle of thermal expansion and contraction, the inner ring is first expanded to ensure that the bearing is easily installed successfully. After the temperature slowly returns to normal, the bearing and the shaft are tightly fitted without any gap. This method is both convenient and labor-saving.

What are the precautions for heating?

The oil-boiling method is not as convenient as the heating machine. You need to pay attention to the oil temperature and time to make the bearings evenly heated and easy to install. The oil temperature is generally determined by experience or a thermometer, preferably above 60 degrees and below 100 degrees. You can also adjust the temperature range according to the heating temperature of different bearings. Try not to make the oil temperature too high to avoid damaging the metal properties of the bearing itself. How long to cook is adjusted according to the size of the container and the heat. An experienced master can make a direct judgment. Of course, you also need to be careful not to let the bearing seat touch the bottom of the container, where the temperature is high and it is easy to cause bearing damage.
